About This SiteFirst and foremost, I maintain this site as a hobby... it`s not some big commercial thing, and neither will it be. Though there are advertising banners on the site (some to as part of a banner exchange to help promote the site, and others to bring in a little revenue) I`ve tried to keep the whole thing tasteful, so it doesn`t become an ugly bannerfest. Also, this thing is entirely coded by hand, using Notepad... no fancy html editors or `what you see is what you get` fandangled programs were used at all. I`m just telling you this in case you wondered why the design is so basic. The whole thing is designed to be fast and functional, and I`d like to think I`ve achieved that. Okay, having got that out of the way, what will follow is a regurlarly updated section telling you what`s new on the site... just to save you searching for it, and believe me.. I do intend to be adding quite a few things still. Just for any Americans reading... I`m English, so the dates are DD/MM/YY :-) Latest updates.(7/07/04) Working my way through removing a whole load of dead banners and dead links while adding new google adsense advertising. These ads prove to not only fit in better with the design of the site, but are also often far more relevant to the pages on which they appear. (25/07/03) Added a new webcam with a streaming audio feature for broadband users in the Benway Experience and Chatroom areas. (21/07/03) Added a new photo gallery to the gallery section. (03/05/03) Big update to the cam chatroom. New chat applet, resizable window, tagboard for newcomers to list their cams, new instructions etc. (17/4/03) New weblogs section and several minor alterations here and there that no-one but Benway is likely to notice. (07/04/03) Added Radio Benway to the Benway Experience and Internet Radio sections. (13/01/03) The chatroom has moved across from dalnet to irc.blitzed.org, still in #Benway. The cams menu is no longer password protected, but some individual cams now have their own passwords. A new item in the chatroom menu now points to a page explaining how the cams functions work in the room, and should save us having to answer the same questions over and over. (13/11/02) New hosting for Benway's webcam, plus a status button for the cam in the chatroom and Benway Experience sections. More new links in the cam communities pages. (9/11/02) Updated the Webcam Communities Page. There are quite a few new links there now. (29/08/02) The chatroom is no longer being promoted as a webcam chatroom, as this seems to attract the wrong type of visitor. All references to the webcams have been removed, though they are still accessable from the room itself. (01/08/02) Added a new sketch to my collection of written works. Updated the webcam communities page. (22/05/02) New menu system introduced in the webcam chatroom. Doesn't appear to support Netscape 4x, but since very few people use that now, it's worth the change. (18/05/02) Made some changes to the chatroom introduction page to explain the webcam policy more clearly. Hopefully this will stop people from asking the same old questions... ie "How do I see the webcams?" (10/04/02) To discourage all the lamers and trolls who were visiting the webcam chatroom, and to prevent people from watching the cams without even entering the room, access to the webcams menu is now password protected, and restricted solely to regular chatters. While this is likely to limit the number of newcomers who visit the room, it is worth it, for the sake of keeping all the undesirable types away. (10/04/02) Removed several items from the chatroom main menu, including the profiles (no-one ever read them, and they took more time to keep updated than was worth the effort), the link to the audio chatroom (since it doesn`t work any more), the message board (no-one used it), the 'Add Your Cam' link (that info is already available in the instructions), and a few other links that didn't serve much purpose. Added chatters weblogs, and a couple of new chatters websites. Removed The link to the chatroom from the webcam communities page (it was attracting too many trolls). Added various requested links. (23/03/02) Moved the chatroom over to Dalnet, after newnet went down for three days in a row. (08/03/02) Finally, at long LONG last, the 12 track CD album Out Of The Dark is available for sale. This is the moment I've been working towards for several years, so to say I'm a little excited about it is an understatement. Now stop reading this and go buy it! (26/02/02) Added Playing With Translations to the Benway's Rants section. (25/02/02) Added Benway's Rants to the Benway Experience section. This is a section featuring essays and editorials by Benway, that don't really fit anywhere else on the site, or which are so low profile in the areas that they're located, that Benway would like to give people the chance to find them more easily. (24/02/02) Added two new sections... Free Stuff and Silly Stuff The names of the sections are self explanatory. (23/02/02) Updated the MP3 Directory. Lots of new links, and all the dead ones have been removed. This was a VERY big job (22/02/02) Updated the Website Promotion section, and created a new Webmasters section. Adding new advertising around the site. Yeah, I know... banners are a pain in the butt, but I`m trying to keep them appropriate to the various sections, and I`ve gotta make some money from this site somehow. (11/02/02) Updated the Introduction page for the chatroom. Updated the chatroom instructions pages, to make navigation easier. Added an essay on Chatroom Hierarchy and Observed Behaviour in the chatroom area. Added The Lamer Log to the chatroom logs. Added Dolphin's profile in the chatroom area, plus links to his websites in the chatroom area, and the links page in the main website. (06/02/02) Made some very minor modifications to the front page of the website. It`s possible you may not even spot what`s been done, but these changes could make a huge difference to traffic from aol and low res users. It`ll probably take a few weeks for the changes to take hold with the various search engines, but I have high hopes. (05/02/02) Minor modifications to the chatroom menu and pages. New profiles added for new regular chatters. New band in L page of the bands directory. (16/01/02) Added How To Make Money With Webcams to the webcams and chat section. Removed CitizenX from the webcam communities page, as they`ve closed down, and put back the link to onmycam, now that they`ve resloved their issues with camarades. (05/01/02) Comprehensively updated the introduction and instructions for the chatroom. They`re now easier to follow, and anyone asking dumb questions like "How do I see the cams?" is valid prey for abuse. (30/12/01) Made some major changes to the webcam chatroom. The room now opens in a different sized window, depending on the users screen resolution, making it easier for hi-res users to fit multiple cams on the screen. The main menu is now more colourful, to make important features stand out. Added a couple of new features to the main menu, including a page detailing what the room is all about, and a link enabling chatters to bookmark the room from within the room. Added a list of servers for people having difficulty when trying to enter the room. Updated minor details on various introduction and information pages. |
