Reciprocal Links, Webrings and Banner Exchanges
Reciprocal Links
Getting noticed by search engines is really only half of the battle, so now I`ll tell you
what else you can do.
What you really need to get your site moving along is good quality links. I`m not talking about
the type mentioned earlier with linking schemes, but the type that people will actually see
and click on. High profile links from high traffic sites.
One good way to go about this is to go to a major search engine and look for sites that fit
the same description as your own. Go to these sites, and if there`s an email address for the
webmaster or site owner, send them an email, asking if they`d like to run a link to your site, and offering to
run a link back to theirs. Also, it`s a good idea to actually suggest a reason why they should bother
to do this, eg since your sites are on similar subjects, their users may find the link useful.
There are no guarantees that you will get a link this way, but just a few high profile links can
make a lot of difference to your site`s traffic.
Webrings
Joining a webring is another popular way to get your site noticed.
Using this method, you add a small piece of text and/or graphics to your index page, pointing to the
next, previous, or random site in that ring.... and all the other sites in that ring do the same.
This sounds good in theory, and it can work.. though having tried it myself, I would say you shouldn`t
expect massive results, but when you`re just starting out, even a few extra hits can make a difference.
The easiest way to join a webring is to visit
Webring.org and pick one or more that suits you.
Banner Exchanges
Joining a banner exchange is always worth a try. Basicly, for every two banners you show on
your site, one of yours will be shown on someone elses site. This may sound a little one sided,
but it`s how the schemes make their money, by charging companies for every second banner.
Do these schemes work? Well... maybe. If you can find a banner design that really grabs the viewer,
and target your banner in the right areas, I`d say its possible to get results. Again though, don`t
expect mirracles. People do have a tendancy to view banners as nothing more than visual spam,
and completely ignore them. However, I do suspect that after seeing your banner countless
times over, some people may just click on it out of curiosity... it just takes time.
One very popular banner exchange is found at..

That covers most of the important methods of getting traffic to your site, but there are
other very important things you should know. To find out what I`m talking about, click...
