You may not like it, but it`s a fact, how you behave in chatrooms, and Benway`s one in particular
will affect how people treat you. Is no-one paying any attention to you, or just making
sarcastic remarks? Chances are, you`ve been labelled a lamer. It`s got nothing to do
with not understanding the technical aspects of how the chat or webcam system works, so much
as a question of attitude. What is a lamer? A lamer is the common term used to describe a certain type of chatter. These people simply don`t understand the basic etiquette involved in using chatrooms, or simply don`t care. The things that dictate lameness can vary in different rooms, but just to make life easy for you, here are a few things that will get you marked as a lamer in here. Things to say or do if you want to be lame Saying "a/s/l?" Have ever been in a bar, and heard someone say "So, do you come here often?" It`s totally lame. You might as well say "Hi, if you aren`t of the opposite sex, similar age, and don`t live near me, I can`t be bothered to talk to you. And I`m too damned lazy to even ask you in plain english." Giving or asking for personal info, addresses, phone number etc Not clever at all. You don`t know who these people are, and they don`t know you, so show a bit of common sense, don`t do it. Saying "Any hot chicks in here?" or similar This isn`t a pickup room. And such a line is simply sexist. Don`t do it, or you`ll earn nothing but scorn. Saying "So, will you show me your tits?" Much the same as above. This kind of behaviour won`t just get you marked as a lamer, it`ll get you kicked out. Ignoring another chatter who`s talking to you, just because they aren`t of the opposite sex All this says is, you`re out to pick up someone. You`re in the wrong place for that. We`re all here for good conversation, not to get laid. Messaging someone you don`t know, without at least asking them first. This is very rude, and if you do it persistantly, you`ll be kicked out. TYPING IN ALL CAPS This is considered SHOUTING! Don`t do it. Saying "How do I get my cam in here?" Ok, clearly you can read, but does thinking still evade you? See that menu on the right? See the link marked Add Your Cam? Being directed to the `Add Your Cam` link, and saying "Oh, I can`t be bothered to read all that." Well, if you can`t be bothered to read the instructions, that are there for your benefit, why should we be bothered to help you? Not choosing a nickname This will get you kicked out by the channel server, simple as that. Choosing a nickname like `10_Inches` or `Sexy_Lover` Get real! Being directed by Benway to read a page, such as `Add Your Cam`, or the `Help` page, then not reading it, and saying you have. Listen. Benway is GOD! He know`s exactly what page you`re on, what pages you`ve been on, what search engine you used to get here, and what you were searching for. He know`s what browser you`re using, and which version.. so don`t ever think he`s gonna fall for that one. Being directed to read this page, and then still behaving like an idiot Ok, so you clearly forgot to put your brain in today! I`m sorry, there`s no hope for you, kill yourself now. |
